Celebrate Sinhala & Tamil New Year in style at the Sri Lankan Festival 2019
In celebration of Sinhala & Tamil New Year, Melbourne’s Sri Lankan Festival is coming back to the iconic Queen Victoria Market, bringing with it laughs, great food and cultural experiences.
Winner of the 2018 Logie for Most Popular New Talent, the most sought after Sri Lankan born comedian in Australia, Dilruk Jayasinha will be hosting the Sri Lankan Festival Melbourne.
Amongst his sure to be sold out Cheat Day(s) shows at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, Dilruk is taking some time out to enjoy the community celebration that will bring together some of Sri Lanka’s favourite foods, cultural dance performances and musicians.
“It will be a fantastic day out with lots of free activities, entertainment and most importantly amazing food,” Festival Director Himanshi Mushaw Luhar said.
It’s so exciting when the community responds so well to our efforts of bringing these concepts to life.
With performances from Sri Lankan favourite Don Sherman – The Singing Chef to cultural dance performances by Tiya Dance Troupe and Shashilaa Dance Troupe and Theatre, and music in Tamil, Hindi and English by Consonance Entertainment, the stage will be on fire throughout the day.
Plus, no celebration is complete without a mouthwatering line up of Sri Lankan food, including kottu roti, deviled chicken, hoppers and so much more from food trucks including Taka Taka and Lankan Feast, food stalls like Drums Cafe, Raw Sip, Babajis Kitchen and Kulfi Bar.
Major sponsor Sri Lankan Airlines is also giving festival-goers the chance to win two return tickets to Sri Lanka on their direct flight from Melbourne to Colombo.
