The Bolshoi Ballet prepares to delight members of the Russian and wider Australian community upon their return to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) for the QPAC2019 International Series from June 26 to July 7.

With more than 100 dancers arriving in Brisbane in the coming weeks, including Principals Ekaterina Krysanova, Anna Nikulina, Olga Smirnova, Yulia Stepanova, Mikhail Lobukhin, Artem Ovcharenko, Denis Rodkin and Alexander Volchkov, Bolshoi Ballet Director Makhar Vaziev hopes the visit will be culturally immersive for both the audience and members of the world-renowned Russian ballet company.

“I hope our performances will leave a lasting impression on the memories and emotions of the Australian people,” Director Vaziev said.

I would also like to sincerely welcome the Russian community in Australia to our performances, and I would be even more pleased to know that they welcome the Bolshoi Ballet in Australia with open arms.

After a sell-out season at QPAC in 2013, the company is bringing two more ballets from their repertoire to Australia – Spartacus by Yuri Grigorovic, and Jewels by George Balanchine.

The Moscow-based ballet company is known for producing some of the best dancers in the world, and Director Vaziev said much of Bolshoi’s success stems from its history.

“Bolshoi Ballet Company has an amazing history so the dancers are always aiming to achieve higher than those before them,” he explained.

Another one of the secrets of the Bolshoi Ballet’s success is how the knowledge of classical dance and repertoire is passed on from generation to generation.

Audiences will have the rare opportunity to see both Spartacus and Jewels on the first weekend of the season (Friday June 28 and Saturday June 29, 2019).

Since 2009, the QPAC International Series has welcomed some of the world’s finest Ballet companies, including Paris Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, The Royal Ballet and most recently Teatro alla Scala Ballet Company in November 2018.
