CulturalPulse 2019 Vivo IPL Wrap-Up: Week 3

Week three of the Vivo IPL 2019 was just as competitive as the first two, if not more. While the streak of losses and bad luck continues to haunt the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians got some confidence back by beating the team that is ranked number one. The week was full of excitement, nail-biting finishes, high-scoring yet close games, and many solid efforts with the bat and the ball.

Game 13: Kings XI Punjab v Delhi Capitals
Date: Tuesday April 2, 2019
Location: Punjab Cricket Association Stadium

The trend of winning tosses and electing to bowl continues… The Delhi Capitals Captain young Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field.

After a shaky start, the Kings XI were 58 for 3 after 7.1 overs. A joint effort by the Kings XI middle order (Sarfaraz Khan 39, David Miller 43, Mandeep Singh 29) ensured a decent total that the team could defend.

Not only did it look like things were in favour of Kings XI, but we also got to see a glimpse of a Captain leading by example. Ashwin picked up the crucial wicket of young Prithvi Shaw on the very first ball of the innings, building pressure on the visitors right from the beginning. We did see the Delhi Capitals’ middle order fight back, however, a heroic spell from Sam Curran ensured things were always in control for the Kings XI.

Kings XI Punjab won the match by 14 runs.

Kings XI Punjab have been playing some great cricket and captain R Ashwin  is proving to be a great leader by making the right decisions at the right time. Will Preity Zinta (owner of Kings XI) be able to finally put an end to the drought and lift the IPL trophy for the first time, this year? Only time will tell….

Game 17: Royal Challengers Bangalore v Kolkata Knight Riders
Date: Saturday April 6, 2019
Location: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

IPL Wrap-Up: Week 3Still taken from official IPL match highlights

A 200 plus score, a captain knock, solid top-order effort, great work in the field… yet still not good enough. What does King Kolhi need to do to get a win for his side? It is devastating for the Royal Challengers and Virat Kolhi fans to see this series of losses for the Challengers.

The Knight Riders captain DK won the toss and elected to bowl. Not a decision he would have been particularly happy with because the Challengers seemed to get to a strong total of 205 with ease and a loss of just three wickets – Kolhi (84) & AB (63) were the top scorers.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore fans would have imagined their team was finally going to get a win on the cards because the response with the bat from the Knight Riders was average. With 52 runs needed from just 16 balls, The Challengers had started to feel that they had the game in the bag.

However, little did they know that the drama had just begun. Andre Russell proved to be a match winner, yet again. He smashed 48 of just 13 balls and got the Knight Riders home with five balls to spare.

The Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by five wickets.

Game 18: Chennai Super Kings v Kings XI Punjab
Date: Saturday April 6, 2019
Location: MA Chidambaram Stadium

IPL Wrap-Up: Week 3Still taken from official IPL match highlights

A good match on the cards. The in-form Kings XI took on IPL favourites Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and fans were expecting this match to be an exciting one and hoped to see some fireworks with the bat.

CSK Captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first. Finally a toss that was won and the side decides to bat first.

Although the team had a cracking start by Watson and Faf du Plessis, The Kings XI managed to get things back in control and CSK were 100 for 3 after 13.4 overs. Dhoni and Rayudu stabilise the innings to get the team to a respectable total of 160. A total which was not match winning but surely defendable.

KL Rahul (55) got off to a flying start but a couple of quick wickets put the pressure back on the visitors. Sarfaraz Khan (67) played a heroic knock in the middle order however wasn’t enough to get his team home. Veteran Harbhajan Singh was the pick of the bowlers for CSK finishing with match winning figures of 4 overs, 17 for 2.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 5 wickets.
