June is the month to relax with International Yoga Day celebrations around the country

In celebration of the United Nations’ World Yoga Day, Yoga schools and enthusiasts will come together in five cities across the country to relax and engage in unity. Festival-goers are expected to flock to the events, coming together to embody peace and harmony.

The events are organised by the Australian School of Meditation and Yoga and is the largest not-for-profit yoga festival of its kind. A diverse mix of local teachers will take attendees through flowing inspirational yoga asanas, sacred music with some of the nation’s leading kirtan bands, guided meditations, and long and luxurious relaxation sessions.

Samantha Doyle, event organiser and youth member of the Hindu Council of Australia, said the event is culturally significant to people from India and surrounding countries because yoga was originated in the region.

“While there may be different lineages and slightly different applications, Asian cultures still have strong ties and faith in developing yoga practices that connect us with devotion, spirituality and Mother Nature,” she said.
