Celebrations for the annual Brazilian June Festival, Festa Junina, will take place across Australia this month, with an array of community events and festivals available for all to attend.

After Carnival, Festa Junina is the second most important popular celebration in Brazil, marking a month to honour rain, the harvest season, and marital union.

It also celebrates rural life, and features typical Brazilian clothing, food, and dance, and aims to reflect the Brazilian history related to European Midsummer, which takes place at the beginning of winter.

These festivities, which were introduced by the Portuguese centuries ago, are celebrated during the month of June nationwide, and are mainly celebrated on the eves of the Catholic solemnities of Saint Anthony, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Peter.

The celebrations will feature delicious Brazilian food and drinks, plenty of music, and workshops to learn traditional dances, and everyone is welcome to come along and join in on the fun.
