The must-see films at the Persian Film Festival 2019

The Persian Film Festival 2019 is making its return to Central Sydney and Leichhardt this December.

There will be over thirty sessions to attend including a documentary program and Q & As with filmmakers. Here is a shortlist of six films, guaranteed to impress.

Here are six of the movies we are most excited to watch at this year’s festival!

SUDDENLY A TREE (Directed by Safi Yazdanian)

Suddenly A Tree depicts the life of Farhad as he is arrested for illegal border crossing during the Iran-Iraq war. We follow Farhad’s life story since his childhood through his own narration as well as his conversations with a police officer and a psychoanalyst.

AFRICAN VIOLET (Directed by Mona Zandi Haghighi)

African Violet an award-winning film, exploring the complex dynamic of the relationship between Shokkoo, her ex-husband who she takes in from a nursing home, and her disapproving second husband.

FINDING FARIDEH (Directed by Azadeh Moussavi and Kourosh Ataee)

Finding Farideh is a moving exploration of identity that follows an Iranian girl who was adopted by a Dutch couple as a child and now returns to her motherland to meet with three families that claim to be her biological relatives.

TAKHTI (Directed by Bahram Tavakoli)

Takhti is inspired by true events and follows a captivating biopic about Iranian Olympic wrestling champion Gholam Reza Takhti.

THE SWALLOW OF KABUL (Directed by Zabou & Eléa Gobbé-Mevellec)

The Swallows of Kabul is a beautiful animation adapted from the literary classic of the same name. The film chronicles the story of Zunaira and Mohsen who fall in love under the oppressiveness of Taliban rule.

LEAKAGE (Directed by Suzan Iravanian)

Leakage is an exploration of immigration, misogyny and the power of oil through the allegorical story of a woman who mysteriously bleeds crude oil.
