Organisations supporting the growing Filipino student population

The Filipino community is one of the fastest growing communities in Australia, and at the start of 2018, there were over 10,000 Filipino students enrolled at Australian universities.

To accomodate for this growing population, organisations are being created to service the diaspora and help those who have recently moved to Australia and connect Filipinos with each other.

The new Filipino Student Council of New South Wales is the premiere alliance organisation of Filipino University-based groups and is accredited by the Philippine Consulate, and it aims to support Filipino students across the state.

“Through our main pillars of general welfare and integration, cultural promotion, and learning and development, the Council works with member Filipino student organisations to create a “family” away from home for international students, or a link to the homeland for domestic Filipino students,” a spokesperson from the organisation said.

In 2016, another organisation was created to support specifically international Filipino students in NSW, to provide them support on their transition to living and studying in Australia.
