Shikhar Dhawan to lead Team India when they take on Sri Lanka 2021

Shikhar Dhawan will lead Team India from July 18 when they take on Sri Lanka to kick off the much anticipated One Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) series.

The two teams will finally play tonight after the original start date of 13 July was postponed till 18 July due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Sri Lankan camp.

“We understand that the circumstances are extraordinary, but the BCCI would like to extend its full support to Sri Lanka Cricket during these tough times for the smooth conduct of the upcoming series,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.

Sri Lanka is the host nation for the white-ball fixtures which begins with the three-match One Day International (ODI) Series.

The matches will be held in Columbo, the capital of Sri Lanka amid the current climate of COVID-19.

All six matches will be played at the historic R.Premadasa Stadium, the biggest cricket stadium in Sri Lanka and referred to as the ‘Mecca’ of Sri Lankan Cricket by sports lovers.

The stadium was named after the former Sri Lankan President, Ranasinghe Premadasa, who championed the development of the 40,000 seater stadium adjacent to the Khettarama temple.

Rahul Dravid has been appointed by the BCCI as the coach of the Indian Team with Shikhar Dhawan as Captain and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Vice Captain.
