Cedars touch down in Australia as excitement builds

The Lebanon Cedars arrived in Australia this week ahead of their historic match against the Caltex Socceroos on Tuesday November 20 at ANZ Stadium.

Lebanese Australian fans are eagerly awaiting the matchup which will be the first time the Lebanon Cedars have played on Australian soil.

Comedian Rob Shehadie is looking forward to the event: “I can’t wait for it. I love my football and I can’t lose – If the Cedars win, I’ll have a falafel, and if the Socceroos get up, I’ll enjoy a meat pie.”

Channel Seven reporter Rita Rizk is another proud Lebanese Australian who can’t wait to show her ancestral pride: “It will be an electrifying atmosphere to remind the Lebanon fans of home and whether you are supporting Lebanon or Australia, this game is an absolute must.

You can fly your flag high and it's a rare chance for Lebanese Aussies to showcase our passion and reconnect with our roots. I’ve got the spirit of the Lebanese Cedars running through my veins and I’ll be the girl dressed in red white and green on her feet shouting Yalla Lebanon.

Lebanon Cedars Rugby League international player Chris Saab is also a mad football fan and is keen to get a big crowd behind the Cedars: “The support of the Lebanon fans at the Rugby League World Cup was nothing short of amazing and it felt like a home game for us. It would be great to see a big crowd supporting the Cedars who have come all the way from Lebanon.”

Fans will be gathering at 6.30pm to begin the dabke outside the front entry to ANZ Stadium.  The dabke will be led by C’Darz Entertainment. Drumming leader Rizik Khouri is looking forward to showcasing the Lebanese culture: “We are proud to drum for Lebanon and want as many of the community to join us in the dabke and show the world how the Lebanese like to party.”
