UIA Mateship Fair 2019 celebrates more than India’s independence

Mateship Fair 2019 is once again hitting the shores of Parramatta Riverside, this time partnering with City of Parramatta.

The full day event will be held on Sunday August 4 and is hosted by the United Indian Associations (UIA), who is hoping to offer plenty of fun and entertainment for all, while also celebrating their 25th anniversary in the community.

The Mateship Fair is a tribute to celebrate the union of Australian values of friendship and brotherhood by the Indian community, a group that has been settling in Australia for over three decades now.

“It’s our privilege to present our culture and see it being an integral part of Australia’s multiculturalism,” says President of UIA, Sreeni Pillamarri.

With over 10,000 people expected to attend throughout the day, there will be various cultural performances by fellow community groups, including Indians, Nepalese, Brazilians, and Indigenous Australians, as well as a parade, flag hoisting, and a colourful firework display.

“City of Parramatta supporting Mateship Fair this year is a great example of fostering diversity, and celebrating multiculturalism, which has become synonymous with Parramatta,” says Sreeni.

Independence Day for the Indian community is an opportunity to remember those who fought the colonial rule in India, and this year will be the 73rd year of Indian Independence.

For those who call Australia home, Independence Day leans more towards the value of freedom and opportunity.
